4,000 passengers left stranded by 8 long haul trains south bound from Bangkok to Yala, Trang and Nakhon Si Thammarat were stranded by train drivers who just up and left their posts at Surat Thani station.
State Railway of Thailand (SRT) provided vans and buses.
Sunday, a Bangkok-Kantang train driver walked of train, stranding 1,000 passengers. Passengers filed complaints to local police, no food or water given to passengers.
The railway union insisted drivers would stay off the job until the locomotives were safe to drive again, stating locomotives were faulty and had no idea when maintenace will be complete. Several hundred mechanics taken leave.
