Portuguese Airport Security Strike
This week-end 23rd and 24th June, 2017
SITAVA union workers. Two airport security companies Prosegur and Securitas workers will strike for 48 hours. All airports will be involved including Azores and Madeira. If leaving Ponta Delgada Airport come minimum three hours early, carry nothing in your carry-on to help the security check move faster. Strikes effecting Ponta Delgada Airport in 2017
Sata cabin crew union National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) have put in strike notice. (Not just flight attendants, reservations, and ground crews)
SATA Strike Thursday and Friday, June 1 and 2, 2017
Update:-31 May 2017 Strike is still on unfortunately. Seven hour meeting yesterday was fruitless. SATA International, Lisbon and Horta flights are guaranteed on the 1st and for the 2nd of June, flights from Lisbon to Horta will be guaranteed.
SATA Air Azores all regional flights will be working.
SATA advice passengers to change flight for another day or refund.
Weather is looking great for Thursday and Friday - no weather delays.
Union does not rule out more industrial action in the future.
25 May 2017 SATA group, SATA Azores airlines, SATA Air Acores, SATA airlines remind passengers about the strike action planned for June 1 and 2. Call them. Minimal service will be in effect.
26 May 2017 You should know that SITAVA union for TAP Portugal has announced and insanely long strike all summer. All's vague at the moment TAP Strike.

AIRPORT SECURITY STRIKE
Saturday 29 April, 2017 Portuguese airport security, Union of Aviation Workers and Airports (Sitava), Prosegur and Securitas company workers threaten strike action between May 13 -17th at all Portuguese airports.
This includes Azores and Madeira May 12th and 13th May when the Pope visits Fatima shrine.
May 13 -17, 2017 union is arranging 24 hour strikes.
Get to your Portuguese airport at least three hours early. Bring minimum hand luggage to get through customs fast. Stay in close contact with your airline.
This is an old dispute which has been going on what seems like for years. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail at the last minute and knock sense into them.
Don't expect news out till 24 hours before strike action is to take place. We will update on either here or Easy Travel Report
We think this strike may have been cancelled.
Are you an easyJet passenger? Stay in close contact with them as Portuguese airline cabin crew workers and ground crews have strike action planned this month.
It’s possible EasyJet will bring in foreign crews.

Update:-Monday 1 May, 2017 Various numbers out for SATA flight cancellations today we will go with the worst.

SATA strike update:-Friday 28 April, 2017. Everything is very quiet isn't it! Expect more information to come from SATA Saturday evening, Sunday morning. After talks Thursday evening union will not rule out more strikes in the near future.

June 9, 2016 Portuguese baggage handlers will strike July, 1, 2 and 3 nationwide. Will effect flights from Ponta Delgada.
Union involved SITAVA, handling companies to be involved Groundforce, Portway, out sourced workers and temps. 5,000 workers in this sector 1,300 in SITAVA union.

Handlers have not had a pay raise since 2008.

and Transtejo link between Cacilhas and Cais do Sodre
Lisbon ferry strike September Monday, 7 and Tuesday 8th.
Strike will last three hours per shift.

Old labor strikes for 2013
August 26, 2013 Couple of things to tell you today.
Old issue with SATA Azores has not been resolved. Union state workers will strike in the form of, no overtime or working on public holidays from now till the end of the year. SATA Strike. Let's hope this issue doesn't drag on.
Groundforce baggage handlers will strike the end of this month. Baggage handling in Ponta is done by SATA Azores workers, but if you are taking TAP to Lisbon Airport that is where the action will be. Last strike by Groundforce had minimal effect, although it did delay some international flights.
Old industrial action for 2013
Flights to Ponta Delgada will not be effected. Excellent news. Although flights from the mainland to other countries will be delayed.
10 June You might find Portuguese air traffic controllers on strike this week. They will join in French air traffic controllers strike. Keep in close contact with your airline. Azores always seems to get hit.
Flying with TAP Airlines? You should know that SATA airline workers are contracted to do ground handling for TAP Airlines.

Update:-April 19 TAP Airlines announce today that flights between Azores and mainland are likely to be compromised by the SATA Azores airline strike. TAP flies to Ponta Delgada, Terciera, Pico and Horta. TAP airline, just like you has no idea what is going happen till Monday and stated as much today. Arbitral Tribunal have issued minimal service from Ponta ie one flight per day by SATA Azores. (TAP fliers follow along with us on our TAP strike page)
Update:-April 18 Union and management met today in Ponta Del Gada. Strike still on.
Update:-April 17 Management tell unions they are open for negotiations, meeting will be held tomorrow.
